Any digital platform is a means rather than an end. An obvious distinction perhaps, but I feel it is a useful one to always keep in mind as client or developer; it really does have invaluable implications for the cycle of platform design, delivery, and maintenance.
The distinction focuses attention on the value the platform is intended to capture. Or its reason, or its purpose. For established businesses these are carefully defined processes for existing teams or customers. For SaaS startups it looks beyond proof of concept to proof of value - based on actual transactions with a carefully cultivated customer base.
The distinction spotlights the raison d'etre for software development, be it commmercial, social or educational. It is also the seminal investment question for every Phoenyx Tech client. Define these, and we will take care of the rest.
